shoot a cow

Every organization has some sacred cows...

Every Company or Church has a sacred cow - that one thing you simply DO NOT change, or that one person who has ALWAYS done a particular job a particular way. Everything else might change, but not the sacred cow.

Which is why you should think about changing it.

If you've always sold cars, what would you sell if there were no cars? And what would you do with all the cars? If Betty Jo has always done Sunday School, how would you do it if she wasn't there? And what would you do with Betty Jo?

The more sacred cows your organization has, the more fun this exercise is, but pay attention to your ideas, because there is probably one you can put to work.

At a local Saturn Dealer, that kind of thinking led to them selling high-end electric powered bicycles - many of them to people who never buy a car. At some churches, whole new ministries have been spawned by (in their imagination) shooting a sacred cow or two.
