watch a clock

Timing is everything...

Most of us don’t think much about our biological clock. We’re much too busy, much too scheduled, to even pay attention. But it is well established that our bodies have an internal clock that regulates everything from sleep cycles to energy. The daily ebb and flow of hormones and other chemicals have a profound influence on our body and mind – including creativity.

We can fight it if we want, forcing ourselves to rise to the scheduled demands of life. But sometimes the more effective thing to do is to harness that clock and make it work for us.

Watch yourself for a week or so. Is there a pattern to when you get sleepy? Are there times of the day you do routine tasks best? Are there times you are more creative. I’ve learned that I am more creative late at night and early in the morning. So I schedule writing time late at night, and schedule appointments that I know will be challenging and require creativity early in the day. I am dull and thick witted by mid afternoon, so
that is when I plan to shuffle paperwork.

Watch yourself. Pay attention to when you are your most creative, then schedule some time in your day to take advantage of what nature has already given you.  approaches for your own situation.
